Benefits of Recycling

Recycle on Craig’s List

First of all, forgive me of my lack of posting. Life is just taking me away….. Even with this post, I feel like I’ve written this before but I can’t find it. So…since that’s the case, I’ll post this regardless (hehe). My friend has a son that went away to college this year. She now has a spare room that they’re re-organizing. That meant their daughter is growing older and wanted to do some re-organizing too. That meant new bedroom furniture for her. If it were me, I would have … Continue reading

Reap What You Sow

I told you we started a compost pile, didn’t I? My husband and I were in the kitchen last night. He saw me put aside some old coffee grounds that would later be put in the compost pile. He told me that he was at my dad’s house the other day and saw my dad putting his coffee grounds right in his plants. I shared with my husband that I didn’t have as much trash anymore, that I’m putting a lot of the vegetable/fruit peelings, egg shells and coffee grounds … Continue reading

Recycle Old Toys

I try to clean out my boys’ toy box every year, right before Christmas. I’m thankful that the boys have a little cousin that’s 3 years younger so we can hand the outgrown toys down to him, even more thankful that his mom totally appreciates and uses their old toys (and clothes). Can you imagine how many old toys end up in the landfill? MILLIONS! I read some statistics that only a third of these old toys actually get recycled. Before you just dump out the old toys, really think … Continue reading

Readers Read on….

Do you love reading? Do you go to Costco and want to buy every book on the table even though you have tons of books at home waiting for you to read? Do you go to Barnes & Noble or Borders and spend hours there looking at all the books that you have and don’t have? If you’re nodding in agreement and saying, “Yes, that’s ME!”, I have a website to share with you! I am a reader and I love books!  I like going to the library and finding … Continue reading

California Coastal Cleanup Day is Coming!

Put this on your calender today. One month from yesterday, September 20, is California Coastal Cleanup Day. It only takes 3 hours this day, from 9am to noon. If you’re interested and want to register, check this coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/ccd2. If you can’t make this date, here’s some information (coastal.ca.gov/publiced/coastweeks/coastweeks) that you may need to volunteer at another date. Help out any way you can. Some information and 2007 statistics on cleanupday.org: Last year’s event in San Diego County, 6,212 dedicated volunteers removed 94,758 pounds of trash and recyclables from our local … Continue reading

About 1000 Quick Tips to be Frugal

I’ve found another great website. I already spend lots of time on the computer with personal stuff. With the websites I’m finding, I could probably spend a whole week skimming these pages. This website was titled “Debt Free Living”, it use to be called “Cheapskate Monthly”. It offers the different financial calculators, tips on getting out of debt, bookstore of beneficial finance books, directory of finance coaches, etc. The section that I really liked was the 145 pages of random tips on being frugal with every day stuff. I took … Continue reading

Too many unwanted catalogs?

I bought one online Christmas gift for my mom two years ago. I still get those Victoria Secret’s catalogs. My husband doesn’t mind, but I do. (heehee) We shopped a few times at Men’s Wearhouse four years ago, it was even at our old address. We still get catalogs from them at our new home in a different city. How does that happen? Anyway, have I got the website for you. It’s Catalog Choice. It’s free! You eliminate that mailbox clutter *and* save those trees. Try it out and spread … Continue reading

How to Make Money Fast

You guys have heard of Wikipedia, right? It’s the online encyclopedia written collaboratively by volunteers, that would be people like you and me. Not as well-known, there is WikiHow. I wouldn’t say it’s as good as Wikipedia but you can gain some tidbit knowledge by reading some of the topics. Examples are “How to Make Money”, and if that’s not good enough, “How to Make Money FAST“. “How to Convince People you are Not Rich” (I’m assuming you have to be rich first) “How to Get Money without Working” (Can … Continue reading

Los Angeles Bans the Plastic Bag

HOORAY! Can they really do that? YES, San Francisco did it last year and it was in effect last November. Consumers’ options are to buy those reuseable canvas bags or pay for a paper or biodegradeable bag at 25cents a bag. Yikes! 3% of the bag fee cost will go back to the retailer, 3% will go to the state, and the rest will go back to the city to fund an education campaign. I think that’s a mighty good idea. If people can’t chose to do what’s right for … Continue reading

While on vacation, don’t leave your good habits at home!

With summer vacations in full bloom, there is no reason to leave your recycling attitudes at home; you can do your part even when you’re far from the comforts of home. When you’re staying in a hotel, let the management of the hotel know that you will be reusing your towels and there is no need to have the bed linens changed daily. Reusing your towels for a few days will greatly impact the time and money that goes into running the laundry every day. If you’re out camping, try … Continue reading
