Fundraising idea

My coworker was telling me how she has her daughter in a private school and they have to do fundraisers. Each child’s parent also has to volunteer a minimum amount of hours per semester in the classroom and has to put some time into fundraising.

The school participates in the Scrip program. So, the school buys a bunch of discounted *pretend money* (Scrip) from participating stores and they sell it at face value. For example, if I shop at Stater Bros, I would buy $50 Scrip money for $50 (I spend that much there anyway) but the school bought the Scrip money for half the amount or whatever. The difference goes to the school. Good deal for the school, don’t you think?

I think the student even gets a discount on their tuition depending on how much Scrip they purchase.

My friend’s always thinking about different ways she can benefit from it. For example, her family was going to Souplantation for a graduation. She bought Scrip for Souplantation and told her parents (who were buying) that she had some Scrip money that she could apply it to the luncheon.
