Today, we will be discussing groceries with Tip #2.
Groceries are an expense that has to be budgeted, but the amount you spend fluctuates. The more steady you can make the weekly average, the easier it is to budget. This is also an area that can be cut down if you are willing to do some leg work. If you live in an area that has more than one grocery chain around, you can take advantage of the weekly competitive sales. There are also coupons to be used. Buy items you use everyday in bulk when the sales are good.
One area that I have found to cut back on is snacks. I haven’t cut them out of my budget, but have reworked how I buy them. I have found that the individually packed snacks have a much higher price that larger packaging. I have reusable storage containers at home that I use to pack the kids snacks. This also keeps left overs safe to be eaten later verses thrown in the trash. I don’t like waste, especially when it comes to food and money.
