We Recycled Cans & Bottles for $11.05 Today

Do you recycle cans and bottles? At stores, we pay 5cents for each beverage container we purchase. The bigger bottles and cans, we pay 10cents. It’s called the CRV (California Refund Value). Whether we recycle them or not, that’s what we pay. We can get this money back when we bring them empty to the recycling centers. Not a lot of us do this.

I found this statistic on www.conversation.ca.gov:

“Californians bought 21.9 billion carbonated and non-carbonated drinks in aluminum, glass, plastic and bi-metal containers last year. More than 14.7 billion of those containers were recycled, saving natural resources, conserving energy and extending the life of our landfills. Imagine what we’ll accomplish if we recycle the other 7.2 billion!”

I think I know where the other 7.2 billion is, it’s in the trash cans on the soccer fields across the nations. I see so many empty water and Gatorade bottles in trash cans on Saturdays during & after soccer games. There are tons and it drives me crazy! In our households we need to recycle. If you have children, they have been taught in their schools about the importance of recycling and the importance of what we need to do to keep the world from being buried in useless trash. Thank you teachers!

Start recycling your cans and bottles, let your kids have the money. It’ll be a valuable, rewarding lesson and hopefully extend to a lifelong habit. Another eye opening lesson would be to take one quick trip to the landfill, it’ll change the way you do things and about the way you think. If we are not thinking globally when it comes to waste, and what we’re leaving behind, we’re not being smart.
